Hello all! Since arriving here on the 24th of May, San Fran has proven to be a whirlwind of new and unforgettable experiences. After scouring the internet for the tradition ‘finance internship in New York’, I decided to forget both the East Coast and conventionality, and found on Babson Career Connections this position at an internet startup. Concentrating here at Babson on Entrepreneurship and Global Business Management, I have found my traditional ‘corporate’ internships to be boring and static, with no change of pace, no uncertainty, no feeling that you are making significant difference in your day to day work. ‘Here’s an opportunity to really show the you’ve got what it takes’ I thought, ‘the chance to work in an environment where I can use my education from Babson and been more than just a number’.
Landing after an epic flight (Cleveland to Chicago to San Diego to San Francisco) I was met at the airport by my fellow intern Ben, my boss Vivek, and another co-founder and programmer Dayo. From the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transportation) it was to my house in Balboa Park to drop off my bags and then to Bruno’s dance club and bar with Vivek and Ben. I could tell that this was going to be far from your average internship, and met some very interesting people in my first night out.
-Josh just received his PhD in Nuclear Engineering and was going to Lockheed Martin to work on ‘space elevators’, although my understanding of his line of work was minimal haha.
-Alex had just found great success finacing his company and was ready to let off some steam!
-Roxy knew all of David Banner’s lyrics, and was very eager for me to compare San Fran to New York, although I couldn’t really yet.
-Annemarie was dubbed Tangerine, as it was just easier to remember. She got used to it after a while.
After a late night bus ride and trip to Mel’s dinner, Ben and I came back to the house at 4 am, exhausted and ready for an unbelievable summer!
All for now, will post some more about my daily life at Rapleaf after my first full week!
